Dear Mum

Dear Mum,

Thank you for being the best friend I could ever have. Nobody will ever replace the bond we have created these past 20 years. You have made me laugh in even the most difficult of situations, like the time you accidentally chucked a bottle of water over a passenger on the train (still makes me laugh) or when you fell over in the middle of the cinema and you couldn't move through hysteria.

Thank you for loving me even when I was unlovable. You watched me cry, scream and shout and held my hand through it all. You've been dealt some bad cards in your life but you have become stronger for it. I admire your courage to continue each day and still be the kind hearted woman you are.

Thank you for letting me be whoever I want to be. You never told me to go to university or forced me to do something I didn't want to do. You have let me become who I want to be whether you agree with it or not.

Thank you for travelling miles to come visit me at hospital even when I told you not to come. You wanted to show me you cared and I realise that now. Even now you always offer a hug, an ear to listen or a shoulder to cry on and I am truly grateful.

Thank you for going without all your life just to give to others. You are honestly one of the most selfless people I have ever met. You always think about others needs before your own, when you really should take care of yourself first. You are reliable, trustworthy and always have integrity to the people you love.

Don't get me wrong we fight like cat and dog sometimes, but isn't that the case with mothers and daughters? At the end of the day I wouldn't change you for the world. You're my best friend, rock, therapist, sidekick and mother.
