9 things that make my home a happy home

Thanks to an article on Good Housekeeping a couple of weeks ago, there are apparently  9 things that scientists say your home needs if you want to be happy. So I have decided to do my own list of things I need in order to be happy in my home.

Scientists think that your home being stylish and clean doesn't equate to the happiest life you could lead. They believe there are colours, scents and accessories you should feature in your home to improve the chances of you being the best, most happiest version of you EVER.

After reading the article I can understand why certain items do encourage happiness, for example scented candles. But I personally believe we all have various preferences to what makes our home unique and special to us.

1. Cushions, cushions and more cushions!

I'm a scatter cushion queen, the more the merrier I say.

2.  Candles

In particular Yankee Candles; personal favourites including Tahitian Tiare Flower.

3. Plants & Greenery

Like most people I love fresh flowers, but I do adore having cactuses around the house.

4. A cat, or two

Because one cat wouldn't be enough.

5. Floral prints

Adds an element of cottage chic to any interior.

6. A well stocked bookshelf

I once tried a Kindle and couldn't take to it. I much prefer the hold (and weirdly the smell) of a real book. My bookshelf is one of my favourite features in my room.

7. Pretty storage

Small space + a lot of stuff = a need for storage. So I might as well make them pretty, right?

8. Fairy lights

My inner 8 year old self is screaming with delight. Fairy lights might be associated with children, but I believe you can add an element of sophistication with them. I couldn't have a home without them now!

9. Old photographs

Having old photographs dotted around the house is always a nice reminder of happy memories.

What makes your home a happy home?

    With love, Alisha Valerie xo.

    1. It really is, I think it's the little things that really can bring a home together xox

  10. I really love your storage boxes, I could do with some more of those myself they always so handy. Yours are such a pretty design. And I am a bit addicted to Yankee candles at the moment too, but I have not tried the Tahitian Tiare Flower. It's probably totally different, but I have a Tahitian Holiday body mist from Avon which is one of my ultimate favourites. I wonder if it is like that?! I love the floral prints too x

    Sincerely Sarah x
